Opinions, plans, and solving problemsLesson 3 · B1 · 10 minutes

In this lesson

Say what you will do if something likely happens.

The idea, simply

The first conditional talks about a real possibility in the future: If + present simple, then will + verb. Do not put will after if: say If it rains, not If it will rain. When the sentence starts with if, put a comma between the two parts; there is no comma when if is in the middle: We will stay at home if it rains. Unless can be used to mean if not.

Examples

  • If it rains, we will stay at home.

  • If you call me, I will pick you up.

  • We will miss the bus unless we leave now.
